Barack and Michelle are so different- he’s an ambler, she’s a power walker! Long before she used yin and yang that’s exactly how I saw them. However, their ideals are the same. He came across through her writing exactly how I saw him as President – very likeable, highly intelligent, thoughtful and caring. His rise to political prominence placed huge demands on them as a family and the makes that clear but also shows how they made it work. What was a real eye opener was how she was misrepresented in the press but I cheered her on as she found her voice! It’s also very shocking how unrepresentative Congress is. Whilst our Parliament is not as diverse as it should be we do at least have a large number of female MP’s. I greatly admired the work she did as FLOTUS in education especially encouraging girls and health issues. I wept when she described the shootings at Sandy Hook elementary school and I cannot understand how these can keep massacres can keep happening and gun control is not tackled. I raged when she described DT’s horrendous and unfounded allegations about the place of President Obama’s birth and his subsequent behaviour in the 2016 election.

In summary, Michelle Obama is an amazing, intelligent, warm, compassionate caring human being. Her views mirror many of mine especially on the importance of education and equality. I’m gutted she won’t seek office as I think the USA needs someone like her and so does the world. I hope her work has endured but I suspect some of it will have been undone.
