Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this. The author Cherie Priest is a great writer and has quite the imagination. I look forward to reading other Steampunk books as well as the others in this steam-filled series. If you enjoy the genre, like dramatic and deeply adventurous books then I highly recommend you read Boneshaker.

Zombies, steampunk and a mother-son relationship coming to heads. It was rather dark – blight is a keyword throughout – but pretty well written. The plot was a bit light – lots of going from place to place, and the zombie chases were rather standard. The main characters are not explored too well. Some of the side characters are more interesting, but we are never long enough anywhere to develop meaningful relationships. There is a revelation at the end, which is a good twist, but somewhat detached from the rest of the story. There is plenty left still unexplored – we learn of Zeke’s dad but what about the granddad’s story? Not sure I care.
