it was really hard to about the inhumane treatment of the women institutionalized at blackwell’s island asylum. especially heartbreaking was the part about the blind elderly woman who shook with the cold, continually begged for god to let her die, and received no comforts or special care.

everyone suffered here: those who were legitimately struggling with mental illness, those who were “sane” and wrongfully institutionalized, and those who were initially “sane” but whose mental health deteriorated under the horrific treatment there.
