I have no idea where all the 4 and 5 star reviews are coming from, but this was flat-out awful. It is one of only a few s that I literally have not been able to finish, so you might want to take my review with a grain of salt as it is possible (but highly unlikely) that the gets better towards the end.

Every character is a simplified stereotype. We are initially introduced to Jenni the Battered Wife and Katie the Lesbian. Later Jack the Dog, Ralph and Wife the kindly Gun Owners, Jason the Checkov’s Gun, and Travis the Handsome Love Interest. I could not keep anyone’s name’s straight, especially since Jenni and Katie’s characters seemed to be the same at some points.

The passage of time is also an issue for me. It seems like it takes only an hour for Jenni and Katie to adjust to an America overwhelmed by zombies literally overnight, throwing around action-movie style quips while they blow the heads off zombies and talking about their love for Romero’s films. It doesn’t take them any time at all to adjust to shooting the bitten in the head, and they seem to take it as a matter of course. We know the women are emotional because they are constantly being overwhelmed by their emotions and crying, remembering their loved ones that died HOURS or DAYS before, but when it comes time to kick some ass they are action movie heroes.
